The road to Bucharest
Enrollment at Kyiv National University started with another contest, not a lecture hall. From 10 to 13 September 2003, the All-Ukrainian Collegiate Programming Contest final was held at Vinnytsia National Technical University, and I competed there wearing a KNU badge for the first time — a few days into being a university student rather than a lyceum one. A month later, KNU-1 traveled to Romania for the regional proper.
On 18 October 2003, the ACM Southeastern Europe Regional Contest (SEERC) was held at the Politehnica University of Bucharest. Team KNU-1 — Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, coached by Vitaliy Bondarenko — solved 6 of the problem set for a penalty of 894 and finished 5th out of the full regional field. It was my first season on the KNU-1 roster after leaving UPML; the full roster of that team was never published online, and the only surviving record of my seat on it is the personal ACM Certificate of Achievement issued at the contest.
The SEERC 2003 problem statements themselves did not survive in any archive I could locate, so no problem is reproduced for this contest.
